 About me :

I am a dedicated educator with eight years of experience teaching science to secondary students in a leading school in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I hold a Bachelor of Education and am currently pursuing my Master of Education at Thompson Rivers University as a first-semester student. I am passionate about continuous learning and committed to improving my teaching practices to better support students in a modern, technology-enhanced learning environment.

My Journey into Technology-Rich Education.

In my early teaching experiences, especially as a teacher in Sri Lanka, technology use in classrooms was limited. I taught most lessons by using textbooks and white board . technology at that time when available was very basic such as projector or videos played by computer. Later I got to know about digital tools such as smartboards, educational apps, educational online games and online quizzes from seminars conducted for teachers . I began to see how technology could make lessons more interesting and engaging to help my students understand difficult lessons better. Also I noted that using multimedia ,presentations and digital tools increase student interest and participation. Many students in my classroom were more confident expressing their ideas through digital platforms than in traditional classroom discussions.

My teaching style has evolved significantly after following this course on the integration of technology in education. I learned how social media can be used as a powerful tool to support teaching and learning, how assistive technologies can help create inclusive classrooms, and how constructivist pedagogy and social constructivism emphasize active, student-centered learning. I also gained a deeper understanding of the digital divide and the importance of ensuring equitable access to technology, as well as the role of educational technology in promoting sustainable development. Through this course, I have begun to shift my approach from traditional teacher-centered methods to more interactive, inclusive, and technology-enhanced practices that encourage collaboration and engagement among students.

In this portfolio, I am going to reflect on a few of the points I learnt from this course that truly touched my heart.
